Hello,

Thank you for your help in advance.
McAfee found a potentially unwanted program "Prcviewer" in C: Systems Volume Information \ restore...........

My virus suite, McAfee keeps turning itself off.

My system restore does not work properly. When I try to reset to a prior date, it will not work.

Thank You

Hello thcbytes

My Mcafee anti virus suite is now working normally. It did state that I have potentially unwanted program called PrvViewer located in
C: \ System Volume Information \ restore

The main problem is Windows restore does not work. It will make a restore date but will not revert to a past date.

I do not know if I have a virus or not.

Hi leo2009 and welcome to BleepingComputer.

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". I suggest you remove the program now. Navigate to Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar

Let me know if you decided to uninstall it.

Next, please go to VirusTotal, and upload the following files for analysis:

c:\windows\is-A36RT.exe

Post the results in your reply.

The main problem is Windows restore does not work. It will make a restore date but will not revert to a past date.

This is because McAfee keeps breaking it.

Everytime it removes something in C:\System Volume Information\restore, it breaks the chain linking the System Restore Point together

Let's clear your infected Restore Points, and create a fresh, clean one.

To clear existing restore points:
  • Right-click My Computer and select the System Restore tab.
  • Click to add a check mark next to Turn off System Restore, and click OK.
  • You will be warned that all existing Restore Points will be deleted, select Yes to continue.
All system restore points are deleted. Now please create a new restore point by doing the following:
  • Right-click My Computer and select the System Restore tab.
  • Click to remove the check mark next to Turn off System Restore, and click OK.

Restart your computer, and things should be okay with System Restore now. Let me know how it goes.

Hi leo2009,

Here is the result of is-A36RT.Exe

File has already been analysed:

Could you please have VirusTotal scan it again? Those results are from a few months ago, and I just want to be sure.

Hello Screen317

Since my last post, my scheduled Mcafee Virus scan found the following virus in windows system restore
Artemis 37AFBD1D9C4A

I have deleted this since it was quaranteend by Mcafee

There is no longer any file in C/Windows is-A36RT.EXE

Am I clean now?

Thank you in advance for your help.
I will be leaving early morning July 25th for vacation so will check my email later tonight.
If I need to do anything else, can we leave this topic open for one week?

Thanks again.

Hi leo2009,

Am I clean now?

Yes, McAfee got rid of the suspicious file. :)

You're ready to go!

Take care. :thumbup2:
