Malware is a possibility but lets rule out the other options first. Let's try checking the hosts file first.

Export Hosts File

Go to Start>Run and highlight the contents of the box below then use CTRL+C to copy them and CTRL+V to paste them into the run dialogue box.

cmd /c copy C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts "%userprofile%\desktop\hosts.txt"

Click OK, notepad will then open with your host file. Copy and paste the whole Hosts file in your next reply.

Try this to fix that:

Backup Registry
  • Please download ERUNT from here.
  • Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: If you ever need to restore your registry in case something breaks, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Download this file and place it on your desktop.
  • Unzip batch_file_assoc.zip.
  • This will create a new file on your desktop with the name: batch_file_assoc
  • Doubleclick the batch_file_assoc.reg file in order to let it merge into the registry.
Regards,
Adam

Greetings all  .

I saw this topic and thought I might pitch in. The command given by Axephilic should've simply copied the contents of the HOSTS file to a text file on the desktop called hosts.txt. If you want it to automatically open with notepad after copying it, then simply execute the following command:
start /max notepad "%userprofile%\desktop\hosts.txt"
Otherwise you may of course just double click the file on the desktop and notepad will open it.

@ bailey2007player,

I removed your post as it added nothing to this topic.

@ exile360,

Hello,

Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/241669/do-i-have-a-problem-with-my-computer/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.
