Hello everyone. I hope this is the right forum to post this question.

Recently I've been having a look around for some free OCR software in regards to converting a few scanned book pages to editable text. Quite a few people I've asked have mentioned the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program but that's no good in my case since I don't use Microsoft Office at all.

I was thinking of trying the free SimpleOCR program (anyone have any thoughts on it either way?) but that brings another problem. Namely in that it only scans from .TIFF files, a format I know next to nothing about. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I think you can convert your scans to .TIF by using Media-Convert (http://media-convert.com), then use SimpleOCR to complete the procedure.

Thanks for the information about .TIFF conversion Multi-Destiny. Alas, SimpleOCR proved unable to work with the documents I was hoping to scan.

How about www.free-ocr.com

Thanks very much. That works really well even for slightly of centre text.
