hello and thanks for looking!! :flowers:

i found a desktop tower in trash. there is NO stickers or markings of what type it is. i opened it up, there is no hard drive or memory in it. (there is no ribbon cable either)

on the motherboard or mainboard (i dont know the difference) there are letters & numbers.

MSI
K8T Neo
ms-6702 ver:1.0

it has two cd/dvd drives & one floppy drive. it has places for three sticks of memory.

i know.. your thinking throw it away. :inlove: i dont want to spend alot on it. any way of telling if its ok without a hdd & memory??
i just thought it might be a good project for win7. from little bit i can find on google. it MAY support 2gb ram & 160gb hdd

any info i can supply. just ask
any help is appreciated :trumpet: thx again

ps: the physical dimensions are 17 inches tall. 19 inches long & 7 1/2 inches wide

anyway to find out if the mobo is good without ram? it appears to have everything except ram and hdd. i have two more desktops. 1 with vista. 1 with win98. but the ram in 98 is different by looking at it. vista says 240 pin. the specs you show for this mobo say 180 pin.

thanks a ton.

You can power it up without ram, that will tell you if the power supply works at all and if the motherboard gives a no ram beep then I would look around for some ddr

ddr was made 4-6 years ago at least taking over from sdram and replaced by ddr2

Old xp computers, ask around, maybe someone has a crashed computer sitting in the back of a closet

This is wonderful way to learn the field, work with scrap before you start tearing up new stuff or throwing good money after bad

In the picture I found there's 2 sata connectors down next to the via southbridge, that model had another 2 next to the promise chipset(you might not have that model)

For checking the computer out a pata hard drive would be fine also

The hard drive would be the last thing I would worry about, same with an OS.

Have you downloaded and read the user manual?
