I noticed the following 2 symptoms last week, initially thought it was just a slow computer/connection but later searched and found this overclick.cn forum (http://220.127.116.11/search?q=cache:l8gnHjXebJAJ:www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/virus-trojan-spyware-help/390008-overclick-cn-redirect-driving-me-crazy-please-help.html+how+to+manual+remove+overclick.cn&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us). Followed the instructions there (including the combofix part) to try to resolve the issues. Looks like #1 is gone, but still experiencing #2.
#1 Got redirected to random sites from clinking on any of the google search links (used google primarily so can't remember if i tried yahoo. problem seems to be gone now)
#2 when i search for overclick.cn through the google toolbar, it tries to take me to hxxp://overclick.cn/and results in a "Oops! This links appears to be broken" screen.
I had Mcafee Enterprise on my machine before and have it uninstalled to install/run AVG Internet Security, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and Super Antispyware. Running these before the following techforum instructions didn't find much other than some cookies, but then they started picking up on trojans and others immediately after running combofix. I have also switched over to Firefox and both the machine (i used to get low virtual memory message even when idle) and web surfing seem to be faster.
Looks like the other user might have had a "backdoor" trojan that could steel sensitive personal information from his computer, want to know if my machine is safe now and what's causing #2. I'm also noticing issue #2 with another laptop connected wirelessly to the same router. I have installed the same AVG, Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware and found nothing.
Thanks for your help.
