I was directed here by an IT specialist at my university when I described troubles with my home computer(s). I have Vista, DSL (Verizon) and got hijacked by my.freeze, which took over as my homepage and has messed up browser links. I took steps to remove it, but there is residual damage. Many links to websites don't connect, seemingly at random, and some weird, invisible Word files open whenever the program is run, and I need to use task manager to turn it off. I've read the intro material and printed out the directions pages for combofix as instructed.

Long story short: I'm not a power user, and I was advised to use combofix to eliminate the troubles. That required me to register here, post this message, and get an approved combofix helper into the action to help. I take it this means I should await a reply before trying to run combofix.

Help is greatly appreciated since both my wife and I depend heavily on connectivity for work and lots of other things.

Please read the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next. In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running DDS which will create a Pseudo HJT Report as part of its log.

When you have done that, post your log in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer. If you post your log back in this thread, the response from the HJT Team will be delayed because your post will have to be moved. This means it will fall in line behind any others posted that same day.
