My girlfriend clicked on the pop-up link while browsing the web and then reported this problem to me. Now, I seek your expert advice. I already ran malwarebytes, and it did not seem to do the trick. Symantec Endpoint hasn't even caught on to the virus yet. The laptop is currently disconnected from the internet.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Thank you so much for your help. I ran this scan today (07/13/09), I think my CMOS battery is dead, because my comp doesn't keep the time properly.

Hi,

I ran this scan today (07/13/09), I think my CMOS battery is dead, because my comp doesn't keep the time properly.

Did this happen before the infection too? Adjust the date so that it's showing present moment.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds.txt log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

I apologize, I forgot to change the time proper. I can assure you the battery died before the infection. I have just put off replacing it. I hope this doesn't complicate matters. I will not run comboFix again unless you ask me to. I do appreciate all of your help.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Hello,

Thank you for all of your assistance. I would like to make you aware that when I attempt to run the Kaspersky Online Virus Scan, My network connection icon on the toolbar displays the yellow exclamation point and stats "Limited connection." I can access any other web page and do not have this issue when I click on any other link. I have only made it to the website on two or three ocassions. Mostly, my network connection fails when I first click on the link. I will wait until futher instruction before posting my final DDS Log. But I installed the updates for Adobe and Java, and here are the other logs.

Here is the virustotal log:

Hi,

Delete c:\windows\system32\NetFilter.exe file.

Start MBAM and let it update itself with the latest definition set. Then run a full scan (let it quarantine all the findings) and post back the report it creates. Include also a fresh dds.txt log.

Since you didn't have success to run online scanner, please try if this works:

Download the latest version of Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool

* Close all other applications and double-click and run the installer.
* When AVPTool starts, select all the scanable items except for CD-ROM drives and click the Scan button.
* If malware is detected, don't remove anything.
* After the scan finishes, don't neutralize anything.
* In the Scan window click the Reports button and select Save to file.
* Name the report AVPT.txt, and save it to the Desktop.
* Close AVPTool.
* You will be prompted if you want to uninstall the program; click Yes.
* You will then be prompted that to complete the uninstallation, the computer must be restarted. Select Yes to restart the system.
* Copy and paste the first part of the report (Detected) that you saved in your next reply. Do not include the longer list marked Events.

Hi,

Please run MBAM again and let it delete its findings. Post back the report & a fresh dds.txt log. How's the system running?

Hello,

I appreciate all of the help. My laptop is running much better and I am no longer annoyed with the tool bar pop ups with Personal Antivirus menacing messages. The latest MBAM Log after deleting the files:

Hi,

That looks like the same MBAM log you posted earlier. Do you have a fresh one available?
