Hi,

I have LG DVD RW drive model GH22NP20.

Yesterday, when I was trying to burn an ISO image on a DVD-R using ImageBurn, it stopped recognizing DVDs. It reads CD of all kinds readily but it does not read any DVD.

I tried to boot from MS Vista bootable DVD, but it kept flashing LED and then stopped without recognizing DVD.

I inserted a movie DVD and suddenly it was recognized from within Windows XP.

What may be the problem with this DVD RW drive?

Thanks

I've had a very similar problem with a Plextor drive. It was the DVD media itself. Some DVD drives are "finicky" about what media they'll write on.

I would check LG's site for their "recommended media" and try again.

Hope this helps,

Thanks techextreme for the quick reply.

I have been using Sony DVD-R media for writing. I have burned many DVDs. Everything was going well so far, suddenly it stopped recognizing the media.

The problem is not only for writing but now it wont even read DVDs. It reads/writes CDs only now.

I suspect that its possibly a problem with the DVD lens?

Well, I would have to say, if you've been using them for awhile and it was "all of a sudden", then I would figure a drive that has just decided to give up on you. If it's under warranty, I think I would be contacting LG and have them replace it.

Hope this helps,

check the pata cable, it is 80 wires and not an old one right?

A disk cleaner might be in order

I just open tray and power down and blow out the inside

Thank you DaChew. Its 80 wire cable alright the one that came with the package. I tried a disk cleaner cd, it played its songs and finished saying now ur lens is clean. DVDs are still not recognized.

Thanks all for help :flowers:
I got a new DVD-RW, Samsung SH-S223B.
SATA this time as DaChew suggested.

And also took the old optical drive to repair, the repair man opened it and run it without case cover (laser lens could be seen when no cd). And it worked! As soon as, he closed it and put screws back, it stopped working again. He was clueless. Never LG again
