Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday, I encountered the dreaded 169.254.xxx.xxx problem - even the secondary network card reported the same problem. I also got a warning message saying dangerous file had been stopped from running - process window title in task bar (no window on desktop) showed something like NT ERUN with NT in blue and ERUN in red. I had attempted to run 'FixXPwinsock.exe' when this happened. I used system restore to an earlier time and no matter which one I choose I get OmniPage 4.0 SE trying to reinstall itself (it came with the Canon Scanner). If I remove this program (as I don't like it anyway) I then find a similar thing happening with a Clipart Package I purchased from Serif months ago.

After the current system restore, Comodo Antivirus found a reported virus - eservices.boc in Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/.../eservices.boc - I decided to quarantine this file - unfortunately it is not possible to expand the window in which Comodo finds things - a bit of a downer in my opinion in respect of the Security Suite.

Best regards to all

Dear Colleagues,

Managed to rid myself of the nasty - turns out it was a p2p infection - got rid of it by:

1. searching by Googling the symptoms.
2. Downloading a trial of Spyware Detector - then manually deleting the registry keys it found.
3. Cleaned up by using a combination of updated software vis-a-vis:
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, Uniblue SpyEraser, and Spybot S&D!

Machine is now back up and running in a state it was before the infection - fast!

Please CLOSE this call!

Thanks for your patience!

PS Anyone know what happened to Uniblue SpyEraser? I cannot update beyond last October!
