Hi There,

2 Days ago I opened a file which I thought was, and looked like a .RAR file, but when I double clicked it, it was a .Exe file, NOD32 which I have installed reported a trojan dropper, and Zone Alarm asked me if I wanted to block Daily Bucks Install.exe and db.exe, I blocked both of these.

I scanned my system with a few virus checkers: Nod32, Ad-Aware, SuperAntiSpyware, Norman Malware remover, Spybot and Norman Anti-Malware.
Along the way they found Win32 Trojan Spy and another trojan whose name I cant remember.

I thought I`d managed to get rid of all the nasties, but Internet Explorer randomly freezes from time to time now, and I`m frequently losing my Broadband connection and having to unplug/replug in my router.
So I was hoping you guys could cast an eye over these logs

Any help/ advice much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

I`m still getting disconnected from broadband quite a bit, and when I exit Windows I quite often get a runtimeerror 216 and then a random number after it, the only option is "OK" which I hit, then I get another 10 or so each time I hit OK, another pops up until about the 11th then it closes.

Anyhow, DDS Logs attached.................

Hi wayne11,

There's a bad driver sitting in the log which is the source of the problem. We need to remove it but first we need to see if there's anything else there.

Firstly, I notice that you have Combofix on your log. When was this run and which site was used to assist you with it?

Secondly, your logs show that you have an online poker program installed on your computer. I know that you may use these this game on a regular basis but I think it's important to note that often these kind of programs are installed with other unwanted software, namely spyware or adware. Due to this I strongly suggest that you uninstall these programmes if you do not use them anymore or did not install these programs yourself on purpose. There are so many online poker games out there these days that it is close to impossible to keep track of whether a program is infected or not. Should you have installed this online poker game on purpose and wish to continue using this, you may ignore this. Should you decide to uninstall the program, then you can do so by following the below steps:

Click on start > run > and then paste the following into the "open" field: appwiz.cpl and press OK. From within Add or Remove Programs, search for the poker game and remove it.

If you are unsure of anything, please dont hesitate to ask.

Now on to the fix

Could you post the MBAM log from the last run.

We need to scan for Rootkits with GMER
  • Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop, please rename it as gamer.exe.
    • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
    • Zip Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Close any and all open programs, as this process may crash your computer.
  • Double click Posted Image or Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • You may see this window. If you do, click No.
    Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • Push Posted Image and save the logfile to your desktop.
  • Copy and Paste the contents of that file in your next post.

Then

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from the mirror:
    [http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe]This is THE Mirror[/url]
  • Save it to your desktop.

Hi Mole,

Thanks for your help.

I ran combofix a couple of weeks ago on the advice of a friend of mine (not from this site).

I`ve left PartyPoker on here for the time being as I play it frequently, but if you really think it can cause problems? then I reluctantly remove it

When I tried to run OTL with "Scan all users" selected, I got a error message:

"Access Violation at address 005052a9 in module otl.exe read of address 74616977"

I ran it without scan all users and it scanned OK, so I`ve attached the log from that.........

Hi wayne11,

You seem to be having major system issues according to the event log but meanwhile the logs you have posted are all clean of malware. This doesn't look to be a problem that is connected to infections, it seems that your security dealt with the trojan attack a couple of days ago. The freezing and disconnection appear to be a system file issue and so I'm wondering...

Why did you run Combofix, what problems were you having?

Did these errors begin at around the time that you ran Combofix?

If you have the log from that run then please post it. It can be found in the C:\Qoobox folder.

Thanks :thumbup2:

Hi Mole,

Thanks for your reply.

Glad I`m malware free, but somewhat concerned when you say "major system issues"!!

Afraid I don`t have the combofix log anymore, I must`ve removed it when I removed the program. I ran Combofix to check/remove the infections mentioned in my original post. I can try to undelete it if you think it will help?, but I`ll hold off doing anything until I get your advice.

The problem started after I became infected, but before I ran combofix - I ran combofix on the advice of my friend who suggested I probably still had some infection due to the disconnecting and error messages.

Thanks!!

Wayne

Without Combofix we can't really piece together what happened so let's see if we can diagnose the problem.

We need to run a system file check.

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

More info on this process can be found here.

Please post back with the results.

Hi Mole,

Thanks for your continued help!

I ran SFC /Scannow and was prompted to insert my XP CD about 8 times (I left it it the drive for the duration) so I`d guess it re-installed some files?
I don`t think there is a log I can refer to or paste here?

Thanks

Wayne

Okay wayne11, now let's remove the malware.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

We need to execute an OTM script
  • Please download OTM by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Paste the following code under the Posted Image area. Do not include the word "Code".
    :files
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\tksndsax.sys
    :services
    fxdz
  • Push the large Posted Image button.
  • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  • Copy/Paste the contents under the Posted Image line here in your next reply.
  • If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
Post the OTM log.

Please also post a new DDS log.

Thanks, you're doing great :thumbup2:

Hi Mole,

OK, I backed up the registry, and ran OTM, here is the OTM logfile:

Okay, the driver's gone and the repair seems to have been successful.

Any further problems, wayne11?

Let's run a clean-up scan.

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image
Thanks :thumbup2:
