I performed a full system scan using McAfee Security Center. While watching the items it was scanning I started to notice lots of HKLM/HKU items that had web addresses in them. Example are:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT...errorkiller.com; errorsafe.com: spyfalcon.com; adyieldmanager.com; wowsearch.com; eba6y.it, etc...There were also some listed under HKU\.DEFAULT\SOFTWARE AND HKU\S-1-5-19\SOFTWARE..., HKU\S-1-5-18..., 21, etc... I couldn't get the full locations as the scan screen only listed the beginning and end of them. I did go into regedit and found some of them. The path for some seems to be: HKEY_USERS\S-1-15-18\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\Zonemap\Domains...then there is a list of many items like the ones mentioned above. I clicked on one of them (eba6y.it) and it shows two files with separate icons. The top icon "Name" has a red "ab" on it and next to it it has "(default)", the Type is REG-SZ and the Data is (value not set). The second icon Name has blue binary numbers on it with an asterisk next to it, the Type is REG-DWORD and the Data is 0x00000004 (4). NOTE: I clicked on a few others and they all have the same info... Another note: When I use Registry Mechanic, there is always one item that it will not fix. It is listed under the Custom Controls section as HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32.

Is this legit, or do I have some type of virus\malware on my system? I use the Windows firewall (not the best I take it...) along with the McAfee, McAfee Security Center, Registry Mechanic, Spybot S&D, and Hijackthis (not too familiar with this but look at it occasionally to see if something stands out as not supposed to be there...). I also use Mozilla Firefox for the web. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Here is the DDS.txt log...

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

regards _temp_

is that a bird?  a plane? nooo it's the flying blueberry!

If I have been helping you and haven't replied in 2 days, feel free to shoot me a PM! Please don't send help request via PM, unless I am already helping you. Use the forums!

Hi,

Is this legit, or do I have some type of virus\malware on my system?

I believe those may have been put to your registry by Spybot immunization feature.

Found some vulnerable software that should be uninstalled.

These vulnerable Flash versions:
Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX
Adobe Flash Player ActiveX

These vulnerable Javas:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_03
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Java™ 6 Update 2
Java™ 6 Update 3
Java™ 6 Update 5
Java™ 6 Update 7
Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Also, make sure you're using latest Shockwave Player found here.

Did any used scanner found threats in your system?

Hi Blade,

I take it then that if Spybot put them in there it is for protection purposes and all is well with all the HKEY .com entries?

For the vulnerable Flash and Javas...Will (should) I be able to delete these through the Add/Remove Programs feature?

When doing scans with McAfee, Windows Defender and Spybot, there are no major issues. The occasional cookie here and there, but nothing serious. I was just concerned when I saw all the .com entries in the registry during the Registry Mechanic scan. One note: When I do a Registry Mechanic scan it usually finds 8 to 10 issues. When it goes to repair them, there is always one that it never can repair: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32. Not sure why...?

All in all, my PC seems to run OK, like I mentioned, I was just curious about all the HKEY .com entries. If they are supposed to be there then I guess all is well. My thanks to you for your time and help and to all the others who offer theirs as well! Take Care!

Hi,

Yes, those were put there in good purpose :thumbup2:

Yes.

I don't recommend use of registry tweakers.
