Hi,
I was wondering if someone could tell me what are good anti-virus/spyware protection/malware protection etc... combinations and some bad combinations to stay away from

right now I have malwarebytes, spybot search and destroy, and McAfee (the one that comcast gives you)

That looks OK. Is this XP?
If so I would also have Super antispyware and SpywareBlaster installed .
Probably ditch the SpyBot, just nota seffective as it once was.
Install a third party Firewall. I suggest Comodo, but you may choose another.

During install.. be sure to uncheck the install Antivirus as you Do Not want to install another A/V

I didn't know I needed another firewall because I thought mozilla and the computer came with one
but then again.....maybe that's how I got viruses....

ooops yes the Mcafee is probably running one..

To Check.....go to your control panel and look at your security center icon,there it will tell you if you have a firewall running and also if your antivirus is running and up-to-date.
