hi,
i was having trouble with my internet connection (i have a wireless network on a DSL line); anyway i reset some default and after that my ability to hear sound and indeed my sound device disappeared. when i click on sound and audio devices in my control panel it says no audio devices. upon clicking on the hardware section of the sound and audio...all the things listed there, say that they are working properly however their location is unknown(except the cd drive which has a location). iam running windows xp with service pack 3 installed, it's a lenovo thinkcenter. The drivers are Realtek AC 97 and one of the messages i got when trying to install them was that they areinstalled but not started..can you help?
thanks
b

Try uninstalling the audio drivers...rebooting and then reinstalling the audio drivers.

Sure .

1. Open XP to Device Manager (Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter).

2. Open all items under Sound, Video and Game Controllers.

3. Click on the item for sound drivers (Realtek) and uninstall it.

4. Close Device Manager windows.

5. Reboot the system.

6. Install the audio drivers (Realtek) from the CD which came with your system or motherboard.
