I was having a Stop error, but I think that is fixed. The computer runs very slow. It takes forever to boot up and for any application to start. I figured I'd try this before reinstalling XP. or getting the Windows 7 RI.

I have done all the steps from"Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Hijackthis and other Malware Removal Tools, Instructions for receiving help in cleaning your computer" I also deleted temp file, Etc. I also uninstalled about 70% of the programs installed. I also use startup inspector to limit the startup programs to a few, but I see 71 processes running in the task manager window. I want to clean up everything I can before I start from scratch.

Below is the error I used to get on a blue screen that locked the system up.

Error Message at shutdown(Blue screen)

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.
Technical information:

Physical memory dump complete.
contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

The link below is to some details given on restart.

http://sohobarandgrill.com/error3002.jpg

I fixed it by following these instructions from Gateway.

If Windows starts successfully
Turn off the Automatic restart on system failure in Windows.

1.Click Start, right-click My Computer, and select Properties.

2.Select the Advanced tab.

3.In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings.
View Picture

4.In the System failure section, click the checkbox in front of Automatically restart to remove the check.

5.Restart computer.

6.If computer starts Windows normally, inform customer that using the "Start Windows Normally" option fixed the error.

7.If computer does not start Windows normally, and shows the Stop error again, refer to the following troubleshooting steps.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

regards, Elise
