When I start up my computer, the desktop just shows up, and the icons and taskbar don't show up at all. I can't even right click on the desktop. I can use the task manager and use that to start up internet explorer. Please help. Thank you.

Hi .

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm You can try #195, right side.

As a matter of judgment...I would do several thorugh scans for malware before doing this.

You can try a couple of these free online scanners to see if anything has slipped by your protection:
(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)

If you find that you're infected (or the scan doesn't complete or closes unexpectedly), post in the Am I Infected forum located here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/

I would also run Malwarebytes and/or SUPERAntispyware on the system, before executing the script in the first link.

SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware! - http://www.superantispyware.com/
