Malware/trojan attack

Greetings,

using older ibm thinkpad win xp sp3
acquired a trojan that has stopped my internet access
unable to open av symantec in normal mode
unable to access internet in normal mode
have run malwarebytes and adaware several times
catch a few hits each time see below
i only have internet in safe mode w/networking
also unable to install windows defender - error says the system admin has set policies to
prevent this install - checked the security policies in admin tools - nothing

also get redirects when clcking on a link after looking for various file names
below on google. get redirected to odd pages like rachel rays site

~ later that same day ~

ok downloaded spybot - had to change the name a bit to make it run even in safe mode- ran and detected win32.agent.pz. pesky little bastard. deleted that and noticed that it changed my registry key HKLM\software\mkicrosoft\security center ~ antivirusoverride from 1 to 0 - looks very promising. more later


~ even later that same day ~

so running Spybot exposed a portion of the trojan that was on the disk but did not catch all of it.
I then downloaded and ran, in safe mode, combofix and sdfix.
rebooted and came up in regular mode
av did not initially work but that's because the trojan shut down the services for Norton.
started those back up and all looks good for now.
i have internet access and when i click on a link in google i do not get shuffled away to some lame ass website like rachel ray.

ok well hope that helps someone suffering thru the same issues or similar issues.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
