[FONT=Arial][SIZE=1] Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hi - I'm new to this site - but have been a guest observer for some time...it seems my time has now come to ask for help.

I have been plagued with viruses and trojans and spy thingies and pop ups for what seems like an eternity - now my pc has slowed to a crawl - AFTER I installed McAffee and PC Doctor. Now I have an unremovable trojan - spy-agent.h which is laughingly described as low impact... but I don't know what else might be lurking in there to cause my pc to thrash at 100% usage for most of the time. Bit embarrassing as I've been in IT since 1979...... If anyone can shed some light on what's going on and how to stop it ( barring the kids from using my computer might be a good move ) I'd appreciate it very much.

pls find attached my hijackthis log file

thanks guys

Bee Wise .... ironic, huh?( no, that's really my name - got married on Friday 1st July - this is how I'm spending my honeymoon... )

Hello beewise,

You have many trojans on your computer.

Normally I would have you run A2 trojan scan first, but since you are having difficulty with your system, we will do that after the fixes.

*******************************************

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Please boot into Safe Mode, go to HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each.
C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe

*******************************************

While in Safe Mode, select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.”

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/
O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpD2A5.tmp (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Intel system tool] C:\WINDOWS\System32\hookdump.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [logon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\logon.exe
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {4E7F51F2-8101-423E-805D-325EA614081E} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {4E7F51F2-8101-423E-805D-325EA614081E} - (no file) (HKCU)

Did you add searchsquire.com to your IE trusted zone? If not, "fix" it.
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.searchsquire.com

O16 - DPF: {FF3F0F03-0F01-131A-A3F9-08F02B23E0CC} - http://66.117.37.13/dba1865.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

*******************************************

Next, we're going on a file hunt.
Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders' and deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)'.

Find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know.

Delete the following files/folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hpD2A5.tmp <==file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hookdump.exe <==file
C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe <==file Be very careful to delete the csrss.exe in C:\WINDOWS\ directory and NOT the legit csrss.exe file in C:\WINDOWS\System32\

*******************************************

Let's empty the temp files:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best).
Select the Windows Tab, Run CCleaner ,(click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then, when it finishes scanning click Exit.)
When you see "Complete" on the top line, it's done. It's very fast.

I recommend that you DO NOT run anything under the Issues Tab and the Applications Tab. To prevent accidently running the Issues Tab and Applicatons tabs, clear all check boxes are under them.

*******************************************

You had many trojans, so please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

Let it fix whatever it wants to. Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

*******************************************

I know you may have anti-virus software, but sometimes its definitions are corrupted due to malware. Online scans are the best resort in this case.
Run this pc through the
Trend Micro Housecall Online virus scanner (Beta)
or
Panda Scan Online virus scanner

*******************************************

Finally, reboot and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

I have done everything that you suggested - thanks very much...however - I still have the dratted trojan spy-agent.h in c:\windows\system32\oleadm.dll which will not be swotted... and 20 minutes of thrashing at 100% before I can use the pc...however that may be because I had McAffee shield running on boot up - I've stopped that now. I also get a NvCPL.dll error message on boot up - cannot be intialised.

Anyway - here is the new log, run after completing the tasks assigned - this is jolly good fun, however!

Hello beewise,

I still have the dratted trojan spy-agent.h in c:\windows\system32\oleadm.dll which will not be swotted... ...however that may be because I had McAffee shield running on boot up

Just where are you getting that spy-agent.h in c:\windows\system32\oleadm.dll message from. Is it from McAfee?

Lets try these two scans and see if they can delete it.
If they do not delete it, then we will delete it manually.

***************************************************

Download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

Let it fix whatever it wants to. Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

***************************************************

Run this pc through the
Trend Micro Housecall Online virus scanner (Beta)
or
Panda Scan Online virus scanner

Let it delete everything it finds.

If it cannot delete a file, let me know the name and locations and we will kill it manully.

***************************************************

and 20 minutes of thrashing at 100% before I can use the pc

Let see if we can find the rogue process causeing the problem. :flowers:

To find a rogue process, you will need to: Sort Task Manager by process CPU usage (Windows NT / 2000 / XP only).

Do this:
Bring up Task Manager (press CTRL + ALT + DEL on the keyboard).
Click on Processes Tab (if it hasn't been selected already).
Navigate the mouse to the CPU heading.
Click the CPU heading with your mouse.
This will either sort the list ascending or descending.
Ideally, you will want to sort in descending order (100 % ~ 0%) to reveal processes which are sucking up your CPU.

Once the trouble process has been identified, let me know the name.

Before you End a process, you need to know what it is, as it may be some needed program (such as your antivirus program or firewall).

If you know for sure that it is not a vital program, then left click the process under the heading Image Name, and press DEL on your keyboard (or click "End Process") to release it from your system.

I also get a NvCPL.dll error message on boot up - cannot be intialised.

Lets see a fresh Hijackthis log.
I want to make sure you did not "fix" something you should not have.

These two items should still be in your log:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
O23 - Service: NVIDIA Display Driver Service (NVSvc) - NVIDIA Corporation - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe

If they are still in your log, then it sounds like the NVIDA it is corrupted. :trumpet:

nvcpl.dll is a library file for NVIDIA display adapter.

I recommend you update or reinstall NVIDIA driver software. It should be on the CD's at came with your computer.
Or you could download it by visiting the NVIDIA Web site: http://www.nvidia.com

this is jolly good fun, however!

Yes, it is jolly good fun. :inlove: Hopefully, the good karma will spread.
