i think i might have also deleted svchost.exe with my spyware terminator. I cant really tell right now because im in safemode and when i go to look for the file i cant really tell if its there because i cant see the icon but when i check the file name its svchost.exe.ren

I know also that my yahoo messenger will not log in, dont know if that has anything to do with it. My firewall keeps turning its self off also, im using the one included in windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • In case you already used MBAM previously, please update it before proceeding with the scan. To do this, click the "Update" tab and click the "Check For updates" button.
  • Once the program has loaded and updates were downloaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

In case you lost internet access after performing above instructions:

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.
In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection.

Hi,

That's a severly infected computer.... :thumbup2:
We are not finished yet though. Please back up your important data first while you can still access your Windows. Reason is because you are dealing with one of these Trojans/Bots that have the functionality to kill your OS.
Read this article for more info: When a Bot master goes mad - Kill the OS and here A Zeus botnet self-destructs

Then, * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix..This because Security Software may see some components ComboFix uses (prep.com for example) as suspicious and blocks the tool, or even deletes it. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.

Hi,

Yeah its a work computer and i dont know for how long its not had a firewall on it, I know i always assumed that it was.

Even worse if this is a computer used for work. :thumbup2: Keep in mind that all important info and passwords may be known, so I strongly recommend that you contact your supervisor and make him/her aware that your work computer was so severly infected and data was compromised.
So, this also means that you have to change all passwords.

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Then, start HijackThis and check the following entries in it:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7171
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local

Click the Fix checked button below.

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.
Btw, Is your Norton Antivirus still properly running and Up to date? Because Combofix doesn't appear to list it as installed/up to date etc...

it ask if i want to run it, do i need to do that to delete Combofix?

yes, it will then delete Combofix.

The norton is not running and up date, i believe the spyware terminator deleted it

Spyware Terminator isn't supposed to delete Norton.
In anyway, for your Norton, please properly uninstall it.

* To fully remove Norton AntiVirus or other Symantec related products, select the product you want to uninstall from this list in order to download the removal tool.
Please read the instructions first before you use it.

For older versions of Norton (2000, 2001, 2002), choose this link.

Also read the next article in case you're having problems with uninstalling Norton if above instructions didn't work, or noticed problems after uninstalling Norton: http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem.htm

Then REBOOT.

After reboot, install a working Antivirus:

* Please install Avira Antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/

Perform a full scan with Avira and let it delete everything it is finding.
Then reboot.
After reboot, open your Avira and select "reports".
There doubleclick the report from the Full scan you have done. Click the "Report File" button and copy and paste this report in your next reply.

Oh is it safe for me to change passwords now?

Not yet. I want to see the Avira scan first. Please make sure Norton is uninstalled before you install Avira!

Good to hear. :thumbup2:

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.
