Hi adz63,

You didn't mention Spybot or Spyware Blaster, both of which give you a lot of protection specifically in regard to websites. Spybot has a scan you can do to look for malware, but it also has some active and passive settings which help in stopping unwanted sites. Please do the following:

1) First go to add/remove programs and look for any programs that don't look familiar to you and make a list of them.

If you have Viewpoint Media Player or anything with Viewpoint in it, please uninstall it. If you find any programs with the word "search" in them, make a note of the entire program name. If PartyPoker can be seen in your add/remove programs, uninstall it.

2) Next, I would like for you to download and install Spybot Search & Destroy.

The download link can be found in the tutorial. After you download the installation program, please do the custom installation and uncheck Teatimer. Then update it and run it. More instructions can be found in the Spybot tutorial here along with the link to the download:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware from Your Computer.

After you run Spybot, please have it fix whatever it finds. If your Windows Security Center comes up as a problem, simply look at your security center (go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Security Center) and make sure all areas (firewall, Windows updates and antivirus) are set the way you want them to be. If they are you don't need to fix those with Spybot. The Windows Security Center will recognize your own firewall and antivirus programs.

After you run Spybot, please click on the Immunization button on the left side and allow it to immunize your computer.

3) Without making any changes at this time, I would like to ask you what the state of your operating system is with regard to Windows Updates? If you have not been updating Windows, you need to have SP1a installed in order for any malware removal to be effective. However, it would be a mistake to download any further service pack (SP2 or SP3) until your computer is clean.

4) Finally, I would like for you to do an online scan which picks up some things that the other scans often miss:

Note: This scan has to be run with Internet Explorer (not another browser)

Perform an onlinescan with Panda Active Scan 2.0
(please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)[indent=1]
Panda Online- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button
- Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report together with a new hijackthislog.

5) When you finish, please post the following:
  • the ActiveScan from Panda
  • let me know if Spybot found anything
  • what level of Windows updates you have?
The popups you have are symptomatic of a virus. Let's see if we can find more information.
Let me know how this goes?
Thanks.

spybot is nowhere near as good as it used to be everyone will tell you that

i dont have no party poker stuff installed on my com

nor viewpoint stuff

even if i had spybot still why would i uncheck the teatimer as its offering real time protection

i got sp2 on vista as sp3 is for xp

and im not using panda as the virus detection rate on avast is better

ps i have scanned my com with avast , malwarebytes (best on market ), superantispyware, ad-aware, and sent a hijackthis report off and came back clean and safe , and spyware terminator, i dont go on no dodgy site like porn or anything and i have MY WOT which tells me which sites are safe etc

i have no malicious stuff on my com

Hi adz63,

AdAware is no longer recommended because it hasn't kept up with the development of spyware and adware. Spybot has. Teatimer has the function of preventing changes to some of your settings, so if you are trying to remove malware, it will simply put the computer back into the state it was in before the changes were made. There is currently a problem that Spybot is suffering negative press from some of the antivirus companies, like McAfee, who don't want Spybot's competition. However, Spybot continues to be one of the best spyware scans.

I would not recommend that you replace your existing software with Panda, but I recommend it as an additional scan, because it tends to pick up some infections that other software misses, and where it's a particular dangerous form of malware, it will fix it for you. The report is helpful and you will find that no one program picks up everything. That's why we ask that you run some others.

The instructions I gave you are basic instructions which allow us to get more information. Since you've done many of the standard scans already and they didn't find anything, I recommend that you try these. Alternatively, you can go to the HijackThis forum and go through their set of procedures which are outlined at the beginning of the forum where you will see a link this topic. Be prepared to wait as there are more people looking for help than there are people to help them.

Thanks.

why would you recommend i get panda as an addition its not very good

i would ask my uncle for help but he's in eygpt for 2 months , he's a it engineer , when he was here last month b4 he went i was at his while he was running tests on different av's and panda came right down the bottom of the list with mcafee,

avast which in his tests came top out of 10 av's (these were just virus detection tests)

and i dont see why if i have done full scans with malwarebytes, superantispyware, spyware terminator, ad-aware anniversary, and about 10 mins ago downloaded spywaredoctor and they all say my system is clean , i would have to try other software to tell me the same thing i know all programs dont catch everything but with the amount i have used surely something that isa not as good is gonna tell me different

and i have done a hijack analysis which came back as safe and clean so i dont see what difference panda is gonna do

im gonna get panda and spybot and i bet they come back with nothing

Hi adz63,

Please read carefully. I said I would not recommend getting panda over Avast. The panda online scan is good for some things and Spybot has is an extensive hosts file.

In your post 5 you wrote "i have no malicious stuff on my com".

Your scans all come back clean, which confirms what you say, and with Spybot, you'll have an extensive hosts file. It must mean that you are visiting sites that cause popups with the streaming videos you are watching. I'm not sure what popup protection Online Armor offers, but Comodo is good at blocking ads.

I don't think there is much more help you can get in this forum. If you want someone to look at your computer with stronger assessment tools, you'll have to go through the procedures for the HijackThis forum.

Thanks.

Hi adz63,

The online scans don't conflict with regular resident antivirus programs, so they can be run at the same time, but it doesn't hurt to stop your antivirus while the other one is running. The main thing the online scanners put onto your computer is an Active X component so they can run.
