Hello inri_pilatus and welcome to the BCmalware forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Step #2

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sysmem] C:\Program Files\system prot\mmsete.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [memory] C:\Program Files\Outlook Express.sav\outlookrem.exe

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\Program Files\system prot\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express.sav\ <--folder

Step #5

Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Step #6

Reboot normally and run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Trend Micro Housecall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
Make sure that you choose "fix", "clean" or "autoclean". If you have any files that cannot be disinfected or quarantined automatically then delete them manually.

Step #7

AdAware SE v1.06

Download, install, update, configure and run a scan with Ad-aware SE v1.06:
  • Download and Install AdAware SE Personal, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan.
  • Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE.
  • Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.
  • Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window:
    • In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
      • Under Safety:
        • Automatically save log-file
      • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
      • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Under Definitions:
      • Prompt to update outdated definitions - set the number of days
  • Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Driver, Folders & Files:
      • Scan Within Archives
    • Under Select drives & folders to scan:
      • choose all hard drives
    • Under Memory & Registry: all green
      • Scan Active Processes
      • Scan Registry
      • Deep Scan Registry
      • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
      • Scan my Hosts file
  • Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Shell Integration:
      • Move deleted files to recycle bin
    • Under Logfile Detail Level: all green
      • include addtional object information
      • DESELECT - include negligible objects information
      • include environment information
    • Under Alternate Data Streams:
      • Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
      • Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT
  • Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:
    • Under ‘Scanning Engine’:
      • Unload recognized processes during scanning
      • Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
    • Under ‘Cleaning Engine’:
      • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
    • Under Log Files:
      • Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Please do not check: Include Module list in logfile
  • Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.
  • Click ‘Start’
  • Choose 'Perform Full System Scan'
  • DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
  • Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.
  • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window
  • Right-click on the list and choose Select All
  • Click the Next button to finish removing the items that were found
  • When finished, REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found
Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

thanks. here is my new scan. I still have no access to the registry and my control panel or whatever it is called is still gone. (the one where you can access software, hardware, add/delete programs and so on)

I still have no access to the registry and my control panel or whatever it is called is still gone


That has not been mentioned prior to this. When did this start, what have you done so far, why can't you access the registry or the control panel.

hey,

I got the control panel back. but still no access to the registry. I was infected by a worm who restricted my access to the registry, task manager and almost every other program. I fixed everything so far except the registry and the "my computer" properties.
I opened a account for a new user and I had access to the registry there and also to the "my computer" properties. it is driving me crazy. I also ran alot registry repair tools but they either didn't find it our couldn't repair it because of the restrictions from the administrator. I guess that means that I also have no administrator control. gosh. maybe you can help me.

Hi inri_pilatus. Well, then we will need to check out a couple of items.

Download Registrar Lite and install it.

Start Reglite and copy/paete the line below into the Address: bar at the top:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
and press the Enter key. Now export the registry key information by clicking on the floppy disk icon on the toolbar. The information is just a text file so save it in a location and name where you can find it later.

Now repeat the above for the following address:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies
and export that information also.

Now post the contents of the 2 text files back here so I can review them.

Hi inri_pilatus. Yes, there's the problem with regedit. To fix it do the following:

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document. Save it to your desktop as regfix.reg :

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]


Locate regfix.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

Restart your computer.

Now try Regedit and my Computer.

I cannot merge it in. when I double click on it, it says: this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effects on this computer. please contact your system administrator.

shall I try it in a different profile? like the one I just created?

I did try that and it didn't work. I mean, the regfix was accepted but I still have no access to either registry or my computer...

Hi inri_pilatus. No that's my fault. I wasn't thinking clearly. Since the restrictions are there of course you can't run Regedit to fix it. It won't help to run it from another account because the restriction is on this account. But we can still fix that using RegLite.
  • Start RegLite
  • Navigate to the registry key below: (You can copy/paste the bold text into the address bar).
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
  • In the right-hand pane locate the entry for Explorer and right-click on it. Choose Delete from the popup menu.
  • Exit RegLite.
Note: If you have trouble deleting a key. Click once on the key name to highlight it and click on the Security menu option and then the Edit Permissions item. Then Uncheck Allow inheritible permissions, click on Everyone in the uppder box and put a checkmark in Full control in the lower box. Click the Apply button and then the Ok button and attempt to delete the key again.

Ok. Now reboot your computer. To test to see if the restriction has been removed click Start>Run, type RegEdit into the Open editbox and click the Ok button. You should now be able to use RegEdit.

Let me know if you re still having any further problems and if not then we still have a few cleanup items to perform.

Hi inri_pilatus. That's great to hear. Good job! We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall and a good antivirus application like the ones you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and antivirus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners
weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

I am logged in with administrator rights and I see: general, computer name, advanced, remote, hardware and automatic updates. I checked all profiles, it is the same everywhere. I didn't check the safe mode though...
