Is it possible to Remote Desktop from a Windows XP pro SP2 console to a Windows 2000 SP4?

Just to be clear, in case I am not using the "from" and "to" correctly:

I want to be sitting at a XP Pro workstation and be able to bring up the Windowss 2000 desktop on the XP computer. The 2000 and xp computers are all on the same private network.

When I initiate the remote desktop on XP and attempt to login to the 2000 station (attempted both by computer name and private ip address) I receive an access failure message.

I was wondering if the two platforms are even able to do this.

Are you running on a domain or workgroup? You can remote into a Windows 2000 pc but you or the user account you are using has to be a member of the Administrators group on the 2000 box. In a workgroup you need to be using the same account credentials on both machines in order to connect.

The machines are on a local domain (the computer name is XXXX.DLS.LOCAL) with static ip addresses.

I have an administrative network account. Even with administrative access, I cannot Remote Desktop to the 2000 machine. After looking at other forums, I see suggestions to use free VNC.

I guess I could take this route, but for my own edification, I was wondering if this was even possible. I was able to Remote Desktop from 2000 (host) to the XP machine using the remote desktop connection software from microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...RDCLIENTDL.mspx

However, I can't go the other way xp (host) to 2000....which is really what I need to do to troubleshoot the antivirus sophos software.
