I had a issue with AVGold. I followed the remove instructions, now I find that some sites have limited on no function. I noticed this when I went to www.google.com and tried to do a search ie: cat 0 hits, or click on news and you just get www.google.com/#. www.gmail.com gets "The page cannot be displayed"

Any ideas or help would be appreaciated

Hello Sitkan and welcome to BleepingComputer.

You have HijackThis running from a temporary or zip folder. Any backup files HJT creates during the repair process will not be secure if left in this folder.

Create a folder on the C: drive called "C:\HJT". You can do this by opening My Computer then double click on Local Disk (C:). In a clear area right click and select New then Folder and name it "HJT". Unzip HijackThis into this folder. Please delete any other copies of HijackThis and run HJT only from this new folder.

Is Domain = akleg.org legitimate for your machine? Akleg.org appears to be the Alaska Legislature.

Open the Control Panel then double click on Add/Remove Programs. Look for the following and uninstall them if found:
- Media Access

Download Hoster.zip.
- Unzip hoster.zip into it's own folder.

Navigate to and run Hoster.
- Press 'Restore Original Hosts' and press 'OK'
- Exit Program.

Configure Windows to enable viewing of Hidden and System files.

Start HJT and click on the SCAN button. Put a check mark in front of the following lines if they still show:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [F60Goj] C:\WINDOWS\qontnu.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

With ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, click on Fix Checked.

Open Windows Explorer (Windows key+e), navigate to and delete the following files and folders (Don't be concerned if they can not be found):

C:\WINDOWS\qontnu.exe <--File
C:\Program Files\Media Access\ <--Folder

AVGold sometimes infects 'wininet.dll'. Let's check it.

Go to Jotti Virus Scan
Upload C:\Windows\system32\wininet.dll
Let it scan and post the results in your next reply.

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log. How are things running?
