I hope I've followed the format correctly for all this. I sincerely appreciate the help.

My DVD drive began to start acting funny a couple months ago... I narrowed the problem down to Nero, i.e., if I went in and changed the default recording device to my CD drive and then back to the DVD drive, it could recognize media (games in particular). It could always read older games and music and such, but the newer games (on DVD's) were giving it trouble. Then all of a sudden it completely stopped working. I uninstalled the drive and reinstalled using the add new hardware wizard, and it's given the "windows cannot read from disk, corrupted blah blah" message since, and even after uninstalling Nero and reinstalling the firmware, still no luck. It's a Toshiba SD-R5372V drive, set at location 0 on the IDE channel. My CD drive is at location 1. Once again, I really really appreciate any advice.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer. Sorry for the delay the forums here at BC are always
very busy and we do are best to keep up. If you no longer require any help could you let me no
please, so this topic can be closed.

My name is Syler, I will be helping you to solve your Malware issues. Whilst I am helping you, I would
be grateful if you would note the following:
  • Please do not run other tools or scans unless I ask you to and follow all the steps I give you, in order.
  • Copy and paste all logs requested in you reply, Do not attach them unless asked too.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask before you proceed with my instructions.
  • Please continue to work with me, until I tell you your machine appears to be clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If I do not hear back from you within 5 days of my last post, then this topic will be closed.
First I would like to see a new log since alot could have changed since your origional post.
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
Next

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Note: If you already have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, just update then run it.
  • Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan (the scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient).
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply .
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Then please post back here with the following:
  • log.txt
  • info.txt
  • MBAM report
Thanks

Hi dmoyer07,

Nothing to serious showing in MBAM can you tell me what problems you are having related to malware? the problems
you mentioned in your first post don't really sound like they are malware related.

Hi Syler,

I'm not sure it's necessarily malware as opposed to another piece of software (i.e. Nero) interfering with hardware operation, or simply hardware malfunctions. This was the location I was initially referred to by other forums and hijackthis for hardware trouble. If this is a strictly malware help forum, would you possibly be able to direct me in the right direction? I appreciate the help.

D

Hi D,

If this is a strictly malware help forum

It sure is, I would suggest you post about your problems in the Hardware forum.

One thing to note, I noticed the following message in your event log.

Computer Name: GATEWAY-DAVID
Event Code: 7
Message: The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

You should put this in your hardware forum post, it seems this could be to do with the problems you are having, although do not post
your whole log in their as this is the only place you can post these logs.

Syler
