Windows update does not work

I am using windows XP sp2 and windows update does not work. When i click on windows update in the start menu. IE 7 opens up and i just get Google. even if i type in the address into the address bar, it still just takes me to Google. I'm freaked out.

Clear browser cache and cookies, restart your OS and try again?
