Can anyone recommend a piece of software (preferably shareware) that's good for backing up and reatoring (if necessary) XP Home?

You cannot just do a file backup for the operating system--the backup must be an "image" backup.

And then, what do you do if your operating system gets clobbered and you have to restore from some external source (e.g. a CD/DVD, or some site on the web)?

Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Worth a look, http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/

For cloning the partition to another drive, http://www.partition-tool.com/

I have never used the first, have the second and have used it, on this system.
