When clicking links resulting from Google searches I am often (but not always) redirected to websites other than those the links are for. About a third of the time the redirect is to a website selling "anti virus" software. Copying the link location and pasting it in the address bar gets me where I intend to go. Firefox has crashed several times. Last night and this morning I had "Blue Screen" incidents when connecting USB devices which I have never had a problem with before, a voip headset and my printer. My computer seems to have been running a bit slow for several days now but I am not sure whether that is related. I have tried to run McAfee but it gets hung up after scanning no more than sixty items. I ran Malwarebytes and removed several items but it did not fix the problem and showed up clean afterwards. I've copied the DDS log below and attached another.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer! I've browsed the site before and have really been impressed with how helpful the members are here.

Hi CTemplet,

Welcome to BC HijackThis forum. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem.

Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.

In case the malware prevented running ComboFix rename it to ct.exe and run it.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Information on A/V control HERE)
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please copy and paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
