Hello all

I am hoping that some one can give me some advice on how to remove the antivirus gold trojan

I have followed the instructions for removal downloading hijack this / avgoldfix.reg etc etc however after getting to stage 8 when you have to copy and paste the bolded text in kill box it will not allow me to do this , I can paste the individual lines in but they will not appear as a list in the drop down , only the last entered ????? and thre is no pending operations prompt only the delete on reboot.

also at stage 15 where you are asked to select the desk top tab there isn't one??????? and there always was as I have used it to change setting in the past ?????? thus it appears there my be more than one problem that I have??

I am running panda platinum and that does not pick it up ?????

I have atached a copy of the hijack this log file , I anyone could advise I would much appreciate it !!!

Welcome davenayloruk to Bleeping Computer.

I've closed your topic at Geeks to Go! and will help you here.

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Download SmitRem or
SmitRem and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

***

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

***

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, please download and install AdAware SE 1.06.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
SpyHunter
Press ‘delete this entry’.
Close HijackThis.

***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

***

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

R3 - URLSearchHook: {AB040302-8AA1-11D2-8DD1-00104BB5EAD6} - - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyHunter] C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPYHUNTER\SPYHUNTER.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSN Messenger] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msmsgs.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WindowsFY] C:\WP.EXE

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

***

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

***

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

***

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!

Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log by using Add Reply.
Let me know how things are now.

hopefully all the problems have gone now, I am quite interested in learning more about how to resolve such issues, discovered your web site via google and my computing skills are, oh well quite limited to say the least, however you have saved me either buying a new computer (for which I do not have the money at present) or throwing it out of the window whilst still paying for broadband conection!!!!!!

The log looks clean.

A new computer is something to dream about. I keep givin' this one compliments just to keep it running.

If you like to give up most of your free time to learn to be a helper :flowers: , please send a PM to Grinler.
We have a Study Hall.

-----------------------

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware, Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help. (Any donation is much appreciated)
