I had to do a system recovery on our HP Desktop running XP Home; it had gotten some spyware & a virus that really hosed the system.

I did what I guess was a 'non-destructive' recovery, because when I was done all my data was still there. So were all the icons & folders for a lot of the software that has been added over the years, but most of the programs don't work - they need to be re-installed.

I don't want to re-install a lot of this stuff that my kids have loaded & don't use any more, i just want to get rid of it.
But the Icons are still on the desktop, and there are also folders in the 'Programs' sub-folder of Documents folder.

Can I safely delete the folders to get rid of them?

And if so will they stop showing up when I click 'Start' and then All Programs?

thanks

Yes, and you can also delete icons in the start menu by right-clicking them.
