I am having problems with my windows system or I think, once booted it works OK as long as you keep it simple. I have tried to run my anti-virus software but it will not complete the scan it acts like it locks up. does anyone have any ideas besides wiping ouot my hard drive and reinstalling windows ?

There are all sorts of reasons for this happening, and these can generally be fixed without starting from scratch with a reinstallation. When you post, please let us know if anything ELSE is happening that seems strange.
