I was directed to this site byKaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 customer service. I do not know what I have that causesing the following problems:
1) Almost everytime I type in a website or select a link for a website I get redirected to one of two types of locations. Sometimes random search engines, like bing. And, sometimes websites trying to sell me stuff like prescription contacts or other mundane merchandis.

2)It also wont let me run my anti virus software or the Malewarebytes' Anti-Malware software I downlaoded from your website. But other programs work, like itunes or video games.

Thanks for your help!

Hello! :thumbup2:
My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

In order to see what's going on with your computer I'll ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Important!
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Make sure that you save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

Hi Sam!

Thanks for such a quick response...

I saved the combofix to my desktop, then clicked on it to run it. I got an open file security warning that says, "publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this program?" I chose, "run" but nothing happened.

at the bottom of this pop up it has a red sheild and next to it, it says, "This file does not have a valid signature that verifies its publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust. Than it gives a link to window's help that says, "How can I decied what software to run?"

I tried to run this program a few times, and nothing happens. Samething happens when I try to run my store bought Anti Virus, and the Anti Malwar I downlaoded from this website.

Thanks again in advance for your help with this,

Tony

Delete Combofix off your desktop.
Let's try this a different way and see where it gets us.

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

Ok here's the update:

Successfully deleted, reinstalled, renamed, and ran combofix

Combofix started off with a warning pop up that said:

Warning!!
Combofix has detected the following real time scanners to be active:
Anti Virus: Kaspersky

Well, Kaspersky is no longer on my tool bar or start/all programs path way. Plus, my hard drive C: no longer lets me view its contents. I first looked in the add/remove to uninstall kaspersky, but it wasn't in there either. So I did a search for any files with the word Kaspersky in it and got back a couple customer service files. I deleted the files, emptied the trash and rebooted my computer before running combofix again.

After all that, I ran Combofix for the second time, and the same warnning pop'd up. I chose to continue this time and run the program. A second warning box pop'd up and read:

Combofix has detected the pressence of rootkit activity and needs to reboot the machine. Kindly note down on paper, the name of each file. We may need it later.

Let's give Malwarebytes a shot now and see if you can get it to run a scan.

Please update Malwarebytes and run a full scan.
  • Open Malwarebytes and select the Update tab.
  • Click on the Check for Updates button and allow the program to download the latest updates.
  • Once you have the latest updates, select the Scanner tab.
  • Select "Perform full scan" and click the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Let me know how your computer is behaving now.
