I'm a long time Att/yahoo now Uverse customer. I've always used their customer provided Security offerings, Computer Asssociates, Norton and now, McAfee. It has been running and updating fine. It shows it ran the last virus check on 5/29/2009 and is continuing to try and update even now.

Wednesday night, I got a notice it was out of date. I opened McAfee and pressed the fix button. I got a notice that tere were errors and to reinstall. So I logged into my uverse accsount and downloaded and tried to reinstall. I got a notice that it can't proceed because I need to uninstall CA Antivirus, which I know I uninstalled long ago.

Going to msconfig, I found a Computer Associate file in the setting area. It is now unchecked and stopped, but when I press OK, it wsays I am not an admin, yet I am able to set up new accounts and make them admins. But those admins have the same result.

A friend who runs a computer shope told me to manually delete the Isafe.exe file. That is the location of the CAV.exe file. Speciifcally programe Files/Yahooo/Antivirus/Isafe.exe

I have ran SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes yesterday and successfully removed what they found. I tried to run Panda Antivirus, but after reaching 11% in ten mins, 18% after 24 hours, it froze just under 1,000,000 files but I ddi see it found five additional items.

My OS is Windows XP home SP 3.

Thanks and let me know if you need more info

Check with the CA Anti-Virus Support. Most vendor's have removal tools if complete uninstallation failed when removing from Add/Remove Programs.

After they assist you, run a full system scan with McAfee.
