Can someone give me a good movie maker program?

First off, I have no clue where this belongs. I tried using VLC and convert but I can't mkv to mpeg, so windows movie maker is out of the question. I need a movie maker that plays all kinds of video formats. Thanks in advance.

I have tried DVD Flick and it doesnt seem to accept clip that play on Windows media?
Its says it does not accept wmv files?
Dunno how I got that file?works fine onW/Media
Is there a programe I can change dvd files?

Do you need only to convert or also to edit it?
