I'm running Windows XP SP3.

This is a very recent occurrence. Anytime I try to install (or update) an application, I get an error saying something along the lines of "Error writing to X. Please make sure that the directory is not read only". Sorry I don't have a specific error message, every program gives a different message, but they are all basically the same: I'm not allowed to write to whatever I need to write to when installing my application.

I also have a sufficient amount of memory, so that isn't an issue.

I don't think I have a virus on my machine. My firewall (Comodo) is pretty strict, and a virus scan (AVG) didn't turn up anything.

Has anyone come across this?
