Widows media player (9) crashes/freezes when I try to open avi and other movie files.
Microsoft reports that this is 'due to ffmpeg' and directs me to a site - ffmpeg.org; problem is I don't know what to do when I go there! I have also been having problems with Windows Explorer crashing when I click on this type of file. The movie files play without problems on other media players.
Please, can anyone help me. I am not a computer pro or geek (but I have years of experience as a user) so not too technical.
Thanks

WMP 9 is rather old...the first thing I'd suggest is to update to WMP 11.

Hi Louis, thanks for the response. For a number of reasons I don't want WMP11 at the moment. I do however wish to fix these problems, particularly the problem with Windows Explorer crashing whenever I touch a video file. MS says it is because ffmpeg is not working correctly, so upgrading WMP won't fix Explorer. Could you tell me how to download and re-install ffmpeg and we'll see if this does it.
Many thanks, Geoff

Sounds like something you should have asked...anyone that gave it as a reference. I've not heard of such and there seem to be various references to files with that name (using Google).
