I've been working with boopme in the "Am I infected" section of the forum. Topic referenced is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/229918/userinitexe-has-a-trojan/ ~ OB I was sent over here when our last efforts failed to remove the trojan. I thought it removed it once, but the next day, AVG popped up saying it was there again. The virus was obtained when my daughter went to a website that a friend had frequented with no problems. She reported that after going to the site, the computer became very slow, then froze altogether.

When I got to it, there was a warning message replacing my usual desktop picture. Upon discovering that my husband failed to install a virus protection software on the last reformat, I attempted to get some kind of free protection. It started off that all google searches were hijacked. I got around it by copy / pasting the links from google into my browser bar. Then, I started getting error pages, saying that too many connections were being attempted.

After that mess, I booted up in safe mode with networking. I managed to get a free virus software to remove a large chunk of viruses, cookies, etc, but not all. From there, I got AVG and Spybot. 110 malicious entries later, I was left with one infected file.....userinit.exe. AVG states that it's a critical file and could not be removed or healed. That problem led me here.

I've done the MBAM scan, ATF, SAS, SDFix, and SmitfraudFix. I don't have a copy of my windows CD available, as it's in California....and I am not. So this is where we stand. I appreciate any help that can be offered. Here are my DDS logs:

Hello! :thumbup2:
My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

In order to see what's going on with your computer I'll ask for you to post various logs from the tools that we will use to resolve your issue. Please also share with me any information about how your computer is reacting and behaving each step of the way as we work through this process.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

Important!
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Make sure that you save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!
