Hi systembolt,

Welcome to BC HijackThis forum. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem.

Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.

The notification you mention has to do with the nature of p2p programs. When you have some file/torrent in your download folder and they are active, the moment you run uTorrent other peers wanting that piece of file connect to your computer to download the file. But we make sure your computer is not infected.

Your log(s) show that you are using so called peer-to-peer or file-sharing programs. These programs allow to share files between users as the name(s) suggest. In today's world the cyber crime has come to an enormous dimension and any means is used to infect personal computers to make use of their stored data or machine power for further propagation of the malware files. A popular means is the use of file-sharing tools as a tremendous amount of prospective victims can be reached through it.

It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and thus suggested to be used with intense care. Some further readings on this subject, along the included links, are as follows: "File-Sharing, otherwise known as Peer To Peer" and "Risks of File-Sharing Technology."

Removal Instructions
  • Empty all p2p download folders. They might contain infected files. Also open uTorrent and remove all active torrents.

  • Please open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: mxlivemedia browser enhancer - {73c2ea04-642b-cea9-5868-cc9dc0aadef2} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = http://dnl.crawler.com/support/sa_customize.aspx?TbId=60076
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://dnl.crawler.com/support/sa_customize.aspx?TbId=60076

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Note: The startup entry pointing at ALCMTR.EXE is an "Sypware" entry related to Realtek used silently to monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one and you can remove the start up entry without affecting the function of Realtek software. We have just removed the start up entry but not the file itself. Notice that you should not remove the file itself because it is needed for the subsequent updating of the software.

hello farbar,
i sincerely appreciate your competence and desire to help. you are indeed a valuable asset to this forum.

truth be told i did uninstall uTorrent prior to posting this thread and installed bitcomet because i had to download some files. nevertheless i proceeded with your instructions to a T. i got the HJ entries that you suggested fixed. then i uninstalled bitcomet, reinstalled uTorrent and started downloading a couple of e-books. the scanner kicked in again with exactly the same message. i am not touching anything now and will quit using uTorrent.
if you need me to provide a HJ log i'll be willing to do so.
it's interesting that with bitcomet i had no such headaches.
and yes i do reside in bulgaria, and that is the ISP CO address ( how did you find that out by the way )
best regards

reinstalled uTorrent and started downloading a couple of e-books. the scanner kicked in again with exactly the same message.

As I mentioned when you have some file/torrent in your download folder and they are active, the moment you run uTorrent either you have an active torrent waiting for the connection to download something or other peers wanting that piece of file in your download folder connect to your computer to download the file. In any case I recommend you to stay away from p2p or accept the risk of being infected.

If you don't get the notification with other p2p, it either you you don't have any active torrent at the time or AVG is not detecting it.

I found your ISP from this entry:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{CB34C9F7-85A5-4D8D-A9DE-471D26D53A80}: NameServer = 212.25.58.8 212.25.58.2

No need for a Hijackthis log, there is nothing there to worry about. Do you have any question before closing the topic?
