I noticed an icon at the bottom of my screen and when I slid the arrow over it, a message appeared saying something like another IP address was detected...when I tried clicking on it for more info it disappeared. I can't remember the exact words but it was definitely letting me know something wasn't right....am I infected with something now? Can someone get on my computer like that? Limewire was up, could it be someone trying to share a music file?

thanks

Hello, what does the icon look like? if you right click the icon can you determine a name/
If you have limewire configured to share your files it is very possible that some one is uploading or searhing.. Also downloading from them has a potentilal security risk of malware. I believe you can check a history their of upload activity and see if someone is using your PC. You should also verify which files you have allowed access to.

Edit: I believe you have MBAm on here already,if not I'll give a download.
But may as well check while you are here.
Rerun MBAM like this:

Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when done
click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan.
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

Unfortunately, the icon disappeared when I clicked on it. I dd immediately close down limewire in case. So I guess that could have been the source. Doesn't look like I picked up anything bad.

Ok, looks good. probably upload activity..
P2P downloads can be risky so be careful there. Go into the application and be sure what files you have allowed access to. If you do not want them there uploading dont allow the sharing..

Everything else good?

thanks for helping boopme. Just had it pop up again and this time I saw that it's a yellow symbol (like a yield sign) and says something about a system error and another IP address on my computer. It won't allow me to right click on it and disappears quickly. Not sure if limewire has been used recently or not. Do you know how to check for sharing and how to stop that in case that is the source of the problem? I'm not the one using limewire on here.

thanks!
