NOTES:
Machine: Dell 9200.
OS: Windows XP Home SP 3
Anti-Malware programs at time of invasion:
AGV Free
Malwarebytes
Spybot search and destroy
Spyware Blaster.

Brief description of fault:
Blue screen when trying to start system in anything other than Safe Mode or Safe Mode + Networking.
Spybot SD appears to be blocked but Teatimer is running.
Malwarebytes is bocked.
AVG runs in command line mode
A command line scan with AVG allowed me a brief rest and I was able to download Hijackthis and killbox before the system went to the Blue screen again. Using these tools in Safe Mode I deleted a lot of files that either don't matter at the moment or seemed suspicious. This has allowed me to start the system in normal mode. If I now restart the system again I will get the Blue screen again and have to go into Safe mode and run Hijack this, clear out some files and restart the system again.

A variety of known spoof anti Malware programmes have been auto downloaded - Kill Box removed them.
Please Note:
Only: HJThis, Silentrunners and Killbox appear to run 100% correctly.

Thanks in advance.
Graham C Williams.

P.S. KP zip is not running correctly so Attach.TXT has been uploaded in its native form - sorry.

Changes to sytem responce: Report as of 29/05/09
Used KillBox To Remove the French File: Inventel\Gateway\wlancfg.exe
Why did I Kill this file? Every time I removed it with a 'Hijack this' tool it would appear again at the next rebooting.
The following are the results of this action and comments upon my observations.

AVG Appears to run much better now. It no longer finds non-existent files like:
\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\UACyxpedhiqhxdulhn.dll
The 'Kill box' search routine tells me that this file doesn't exist. (Looks more like a Linux/Unix file to me)

Tea timer appears to run properly.
I cannot download and run most software (- Only small programmes seem to work. I tried to load and run SBSD 1.3 from CD - It didn't work.)
I cannot run Malwarebytes and SBSD
I cannot erase them reload as I cannot download & Run---
I suspect the Start-up Blue screen is false because starting in Normal mode is erratic. Sometimes Blue screen sometimes OK. If I get a Blue screen very often just Crashing the system and forcing a restart will be enough for it to start normally with No Blue screen!

Backlight: I could download and run Backlight. Nothing found.
Regedit: Now Runs.
cmd.exe: Runs.
ie: Still hijacked but 'cut and paste' links works OK.

Comment : Feel as if I'm making some slow progress. Would love some help from people who know more than I do. Questions like: How can certain programmes be blocked - How do I unblock them?

If this is seen as Bumping Please demote this log to its correct position.

Helper: JSntgRvr - Though you did not know it.

Referance Topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/229288/personal-antivirusrootkituacinitdll/

Symptoms very similar. Date about the same as when this computer got infected.
Last attempt before wipe and Linux.

Actions taken: Closely following those recommended in the link above. The deviation was due to my error. All actions completed sucsessfully.

Had to rename Combofix.exe to CbF.exe - got me around Blue screen at boot into normal mode.

The computer appears to run well. Text files and scan results below.

Big Thanks to JSntgRvr.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine.  Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links.  Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool.  No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note:  You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run.  After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection.  Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Hi Graham,

Welcome to BC HijackThis forum and sorry for the delay. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem.

You seem to have removed the infection. There are some clutters or left overs to take care of.

  • Close any open browsers.

Open notepad (start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

    Posted Image

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you ( "C:\ComboFix.txt"). Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

  • Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Look for "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)" JRE 6 Update 14.
  • Click the Download button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u13-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
-- If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
-- If you choose to update via the Java applet in Control Panel, uncheck the option to install the Toolbar unless you want it.
-- The uninstaller incorporated in this release removes previous Updates 10 and above, but does not remove older versions, so they still need to be removed manually.

Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click Ok and reboot your computer.

Please first download latest Java, uninstall old java, then install the downloaded Java as instructed. After that uninstall ComboFix:

Go to start > run and copy and paste or type next command in the field then hit enter:

ComboFix /u

Note: There's a space between Combofix and /

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

It makes a clean Restore Point and clears all the old restore points in order to prevent possible reinfection from an old one through system restore.

The first reboot might be a little slow, the next one will be faster.

Do you have any question before we close the topic?
