my friend just got one of those tiny laptops and it doesnt have a cd drive. He asked me if there was a downloadable version of "Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition." He said he has the product key of the original CD. We did a quick search on google but only found 2007 trial versions and even links that said 2003 in other forums redirected to the microsoft page to the 2007 version.

Some other info: has XP home
Looking for: downloadable version of Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition

I cannot find one, at least one that I'd trust to be legitimate.

You can, however, download OpenOffice - a free office suite - which will read all MS 2003 documents. You can also save documents in office format. You can find OpenOffice here: http://www.openoffice.org/

This way there would also be no risk of violating a license agreement. As I recall, MS Office Pro limits installation to one computer unless you have a corporate license or some other specialty license.

Another option is to do what my neighbor did. Purchase an inexpensive USB portable CD-ROM drive.
