Hi,
I'm totally new to this forum, and had just followed the instructions to run the DDS. But all i get from it is a Command Prompt window with message "The system cannot find the file specified." and the window stays there. I've posted a previous topic at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/229376/hupigon13-win32delfuv-and-possible-others-moved/ where i'm advised to post here instead. Here's the contextual information of what happen so far till this particular post.

I've discovered there were trojan/virus/malware on my computer after my avast alert me. I'm using Windows XP SP3 build 2600. I quickly did a scan with SpyBot in normal Windows mode and removed trojans like SmitFraud. But there were some lingering ones which reside after reboot. After reboot i found that my avast, regedit, and windows security service got disabled. Scanning with MalwareBytes in normal Windows mode recovered my windows security service. avast and regedit works only once after reboot, and subsequent reboots they were disabled again. I also found that my system shuts down suddenly with no message or warning while performing MalwareBytes scan under Safe mode. This did not happen when i'm running in Windows normal mode and i've scanned several times successfully in normal mode since this problem arose.

When i discovered that there is SmitFraud, I also downloaded SmitFraudFix.exe but could not run it successfully. Apart from uncompressing the files, there was not other reaction. I tried executing SmitFraudFix.cmd in command prompt and result in "The system cannot find the file specified.". However since the latest SpyBot scan did not reveal anymore SmitFraud it could have been removed I hope?

I later discover that my Null device became missing from Computer Management, which is a cause I think where I cannot run SmitFraudFix and also DDS. I had manually setup the Null device again and DDS could now run (i didn't try SmitFraudFix anymore as repeated Spybot scans did not detect it. However, my repeated Spybot scans detected Hupigon13, Win32.Delf.uv after every reboot. After an attempt to clean, regedit.exe works but avast Resident Shield remains Disabled. However after a reboot the Hupigon13, Win32.Delf.uv return and regedit.exe is not accessible until i clean them again using SpyBot.

So here is the DDS.txt and zipped Attach.txt just obtained prior to posting this.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

Hello qawely :thumbup2: Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. Sorry about your wait, but I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system from here on out.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are performing the clean-up. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

I need to get a little different look at your system so please perform the following:

Do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer

You're welcome! :) Not the best of news. :thumbup2:

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files. You can see this from the Kaspersky scan above and the information in the link below:

http://www.viruslist.com/en/viruses/encycl...a?virusid=42048

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

For the time being I will proceed on the assumption you wish to clean up your computer. If you do not and would rather reformat or reinstall let me know in your next reply.

It appears you have downloaded ComboFix so what I need for you to do is delete the version you have on your Desktop at this time and download a newer version from the link below. Go ahead and follow the instructions to run it.

Please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Instruction can be found HERE
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Dear thewall,
Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded ComboFix from your given links and followed your instructions. I do not have the avast system tray icon appearing. I've checked in Administrative Tools -> Services that the avast services are not in "Started". When i launch ComboFix.exe I get the following message

ComboFix has detected the following real time scanner(s) to be active:

antiviris: avast! antivirus 4.8.1335 [VPS 090525-0]

I then abort this step and ask for your opinion as the suggestion given by ComboFix message box that taking the step is risky. Where else can i check to make sure avast real time scanner is active?

Regards,
qawely

What we are going to need to do here is for you to temporarily uninstall your Avast. Of course you don't want to be doing any Internet surfing with it uninstalled. Let's do that and then run ComboFix. After that you can reinstall it. I'll give you the link below:

For a free anti-virus please follow these instructions:

Click on this link: AVG
  • Underneath AVG Anti-Virus Free click on Download
  • Click on AVG 8.5 Free for Windows
  • Click on Download
  • A window will open. Click on Save File-A window will open. Click on Next
  • Click on Accept
  • Make sure standard install is checked and click Next
  • You can enter your name and click Next
  • click Finish After install is complete click OK
  • Follow prompters to update and check for viruses
Some more links to free anti-virus programs(Note. Choose only one)

Avira

Avast

When you finish please provide the log from ComboFix.

I've observed that many services are not running like: ICS service and IBM laptop services. Applications like MSN that start on runtime is in system tray is not happening. When viewing Processes in Task Manager there isn't a User Name value in all processes except for System idle Process. Also typing something into Run... gets a slow reaction in terms of the characters appear almost 1 per second. This doesn't happen in browser or typing in notepad. Is that expected after running ComboFix? My avast (4.8.1335) is running now in system tray even after reboot but the web shield, and internet mail shield are not running. Likewise their services (web scanner and main scanner). Starting any service results in failure with messages "cannot start in timely fashion". Launching My Computer has no response (just a torchlight animation all the time), I have to go direct to my C: via Run. Executing application like MS Paint doesn't work but the process mspaint.exe is in task manager Processes. Likewise for MSN. However firefox can run, and some applications like OpenOffice can also run. Windows explorer.exe is not very responsive.

Regards,
qawely

No, ComboFix should not be causing any of those problems.

We need to scan for Rootkits with GMER
  • Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop:
    • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
    • Zip Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Close any and all open programs, as this process may crash your computer.
  • Double click Posted Image or Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • You may see this window. If you do, click No.
    Posted Image
  • Click on Posted Image and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • Push Posted Image and save the logfile to your desktop.
  • Copy and Paste the contents of that file in your next post.

If I have helped you then please consider donating so I can continue the fight against malware Posted Image

Dear thewall,
I've managed to run the scan after a few attempts. It was not saving the file until this one (i redownload a new GMER executable for each attempt just in case). During the scans, there were no message dialog boxes popping up during the scan like what you describe in Step 5 and 7. However after the GMER scan complete, I've got dialog messages saying "Insufficient resource to run the service" when trying to launch my text editor to copy contents, and browser to post on topic. So i had to reboot in order to post this topic. I've noticed that shutdown laptop is very very long now. "My Computer" will not display drives (C: and DVD drive). Viewing System Properties yields no response. I tried copy and paste the log but got a reply saying message is too long, and I found the text file is more than 1Mb. Hence attaching zipped up as gmer.zip. Pardon me for not pasting but attaching as zip as i have no choice. :thumbup2:

Special ComboFix script made for this computer only

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs including TeaTimer if you have it so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Instructions for doing so are located here

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
c:\windows\system32\acodep.dll
c:\windows\sto452739.dat
c:\windows\system32\2553666240.dat
c:\windows\system32\adsldpcq.exe
Folder:
c:\temp\2009-05-25
c:\temp\double
c:\temp\2009-05-14

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Dear thewall,
I'm unable to disable the avast (this was the new installation after the first ComboFix). Can't stop from System Tray, nor from Services, nor from killing process from task manager (says access is denied). What should I do?

Regards,
qawely

Go ahead and run it anyway. I have included a new directive so it should be OK. If it still won't run you are going to have to uninstall your Avast again.
