Before going through trobleshooting the computer it would be wise to hook another to the exact same connection & see how it works.
[Actually unplug the connection from that computer & use it on another]

If your connection is an issue fixing the computer won't help.

Otherwise do a good cleanup & run virus/malware scans.

what type of connection is it?

wired/wireless?

if wireless, are the PCs in different locations? (check signal)

if its wired then you have to think elsewhere;

what properties do the PCs show for the network connection? (ie, what speeds)

also is it only internet explorer that you have slow-down with on the PCs whilst comparing? (so then think try another browser, compare add-ons/toolbars etc... also see what speeds you can transfer files between PCs)

What anti-virus program is on the unit ?
Does it have a "security suite" or other malware/adware full time link scanner ?

When you do a google search do you have green for safe sites & red for bad sites by the links ?

AVG has a "link scanner".
It will make a unit absolutly drag on line as it sans every link/page.

The easiest way to fix that is to download a new AVG
Uninstall the AVG you have
Install the new one but pay close attention & when given the option choose Custom install
Take the checkmarks out of the little boxes by Link Scanner & Addition Languages.
Continue the install
When you get to the setup part I suggest taking the checkmark out of the Dail Scan scheduler box & disabling the "daily scan"
[You don't really need to do a full scan every day]

I've been using AVG a long time !

If you have IE7 try this,

Go to the Control Panel
double click Internet options
Click on the Advanced tab
Scoll down to Security
Locate the "Phishing Filter"
Put a dot in the circle [click on it] by Disable Phishing Filter
Click Apply
Click OK
close the control panel
Try IF

If you do this while IE is open from Tools>Internet Options you will have to close IE & reopen it for the change to take affict.
