Hi,

Need some help identifying an infection... it appears to create a exe file in the users profile so a user called gary would have the following file c:\documents and settings\gary\gary.exe, usually accompanied by a file with no extension and the name is usually 20-30 random chars.

I've seen this a couple of times now, managed to remove the major infections with ComboFix, Malwarebytes and good ol' delete gets rid of the 2 files listed above but I was curious and wanted to know which trojan/virus/worm was the cause of these files.

Cheers,

Andy.

Hello as there is little info on this. I suggest you run HJT/DDS.
Please follow this guide. go and do steps 6 and 7 ,, Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Hijackthis. Then go here HijackThis Logs and Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware Removal ,click New Topic, give it a relevant Title and post that complete log.

Let me know if it went OK.

Typical, I can't get this info anymore... I just cleaned up the system, removed the tools I'd used and returned to the user. Next time I come across this infection I'll get the DDS log and post it for checking.

Thanks anyway!
