Here are some things I haven't figured out how to do in Windows 7. Can anyone explain:

1) Why the desktop icons have no captions? (I can see them when I try to Rename the icon).

2) How to add icons to the quick-start part of taskbar?

3) What the 4-colored "Windows shield" means when it appears over another icon on the desktop?

Thanks.

Can you take a screenshot of the icons? I tried replicating, but didnít have any luck.

Basically, to pin an icon to the taskbar, all you have to do is drag and drop it there.

The shield denotes that they take administrator rights to run.

Also, for some of your other questions, Iíd suggest checking out this Gizmodo piece on Windows 7. It has a lot of great info.
