FONT WON'T INSTALL

I've been trying to install fonts on my comp since I got it. I'm a film editor, so not being able to access new fonts is bleeping me off.

I download the fonts and they're on my desktop. I tried installing them ALL KINDS of ways.
1.I tried right click>Install
2.I opened the font folder, right clicked on an empty space and clicked 'Install New Font'
3.I tried dragging and dropping the font.

And what happens in ALL cases is the screen goes black and a permission box pops up. I press continue, THE END. My font is not there.

HOW DO I INSTALL THESE FONTS??
