Attached is a hijackthis log, and the dds log. I received an error from the dds program regarding sort utility "encountered a problem and needs to close," I'm not sure I can provide the attach file. Also here is a description of my problem.

A quick summary of the problems and the cause. After installing and then actually running a camtasia video recording program, the computer has been stuck with excessive memory use, iexplore.exe running on its own, the "next" button on system restore blocked, spybot and other programs such as malware bytes and hijack this simply not starting/loading beyond a set amount of memory (usually around 2300 kb, however I got around this by renaming the files from spybotsd.exe to spybotsd.bat and the programs then worked fine), random reboots upon a few minutes of start or immediately after choosing an account at the win login screen, and finally, sometimes I hear iexplore running in the background (with clicks or actual audio from a webpage) however I can not see it running beyond the iexplore.exe listing in the task manager.

iexplore.exe seems to run at startup, and even if i close it, it may open itself again.

also system is using a lot of memory (up to 60,000 kb) which seems wrong.

I have run AVG, Spybot, Mal-ware Bytes, Trend Micro's online scanner, and now I am here with a hijack this log. I have found many problems with the virus scanners, however even after fixing the problems the computer is essentially unchanged from when the problems began. I have also encountered an error messages at the start of hijack this.

Note: The hijackthis error message I received was:
"for some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. etc..."
(i followed the directions that were given to fix this, but didn't get anywhere...)

I am considering rebooting the computer via some method, in order to reformat the hard drive and reboot the OS, however if I can avoid rebooting, then that would be great. Does anyone know what I should do? Thank you.

Please note that the audio program which I believe caused the problems was Camtasia 6.0, which was also recently uninstalled through add/remove programs (therefore, it may not show up on the list).

Malware bytes had been renamed/installed twice, that is the reason for the Malwa file.

edit: I was able to upload the attach file, although there is really nothing to read.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Thanks-
