I have an IBM Aptiva 2196-19A running Win98SE and am having problems reinstalling the PCI modem. When I query the modem this comes back - Conexant HCF P85 although it has this written on it F-1156IV+/R9C

I have downloaded the driver which seems to install ok, but everytime I reboot I get "new hardware found - unknown device"

When I look in the Device Manager it lists PCI Communication Device with problems, although the modem is listed under modems as installed correctly.

Can anyone help with this ?

Thanks
Mike

Unless you are going to use a dialup [phone] connection just take the modem out of the unit or just disable it in the Device Manager,

If you want the drivers for it here is the IBM/Lenovo download page for your mode3l & Windows 09.
There are 2 modem drivers list .
One of them should work.

Thanks ! I had already been to that site to get other drivers, but didn't notice there were two for the modem.

Typically I chose the wrong one !

All working now, thanks again

Mike
