Hello!!
I am here to see if y'all can help me find what it is that is causing my search to redirect to all these advertisements.
I found Runningjumpers post http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...amp;mode=linear
which was very similar to my issues and have read your response to them, but I wanted to be sure. OK here's the deal:
Around the first of the month I got this monstrous display on my computer "INFECTED! Your personal information could be at risk!"...blah blah. It turned out to be the antiviruspro2009 thingee, and it got really crazy! Regedit was disabled and task manager was disabled, supposedly by administrator (which is me!) and it was really out of whack. I stayed in safemode w/networking for about a week. Finally I got some help, and MUCH of it was straightened out, but I still have this problem with my searching.

Here's what I am using on my pc:
At the time of infection I had McAfee...I have changed to avast!
I have installed Malwarebytes and have run it almost every day here lately. (I will post some of my logs below)
I have SUPERantispyware installed and running.
ATF Cleaner is installed on my computer and I ran it this morning.
I ran CCleaner yesterday.

Well, check it out: On the SUPERantispyware log I created yesterday it found ONE file threat: It's called Rogue.FakeAlert/Wallpaper
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMPROFILE\LOCAL SETTINGS\TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES\CONTENT.IE5\FGZ91KLV\WARNING[1].GIF

So, just now I went to my display properties to verify that I did in fact still have control of my desktop display (as I didn't at one time), and when I got there I found that ALLLLLL of my pictures from My Pictures folder have been added to Background options under the desktop tab!! What the freak? *sigh* This is quite frustrating because as soon as one thing gets fixed, something else goes awry, so that tells me that the bug is still alive in there and just mutating itself allover my computer!

So :flowers: logs are below. THANKS!

This is the SASW log from yesterday:

But then another clean one....??

The majority of my time online is spent on Facebook or Youtube or Yahoo! Mail.
I don't know where I'm picking this stuff up at. I suspect it originally started through Limewire.
But my daughter uses that and she's not here all of the time. It's MOSTLY me that uses the computer.

I guess you'll want me to post new logs, after you look at these.
But, I wanted to give you as much detailed info on what's been happening.
During the time that I was running all of these MBAM scans I was also running other scans as directed by the people who were helping me. I did ATFCleaner and some kind of ERUNT registry bachup, I also did ComboFix... :inlove:
I've run all kids of 'fixes' on here. However I still haven't completely removed it so, hopefully y'all can help me.
Thanks so much!
:trumpet: Shannon!

Combofix should never be used without the supervision of an expert.

Download and Run FlashDisinfector

You may have a flash drive infection. These worms travel through your portable drives. If they have been connected to other machines, they may now be infected.
  • Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
Note: Some security programs will flag Flash_Disinfector as being some sort of malware, you can safely ignore these warnings
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection.

Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:
  • Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program.
  • Cancel any prompts to download the latest CureIt version and click Start.
  • At the prompt to "Start scan now", click Ok. Allow the setup.exe/driver to load if asked by any of your security programs.
  • The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders).
  • If prompted to download the Full version Free Trial, just ignore and click the X to close the window.
  • If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All.
  • When complete, click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable.
(This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)
  • Now put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media.
  • In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Ok.
  • Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo.
  • When the scan is complete, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.
  • Click "Yes to all" if asked to cure or move the file(s) and select "Move incurable".
  • In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.
  • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

Did you run Flash Disinfector?

Some types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it.

  • Before saving any of your security programs, rename them first. For example, before you save Malwarebytes', rename it to something like MBblah.exe and then click on Save and save it to your desktop. Same thing after you install it. Before running it, rename the main executable file first

Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.

If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..
  • Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys.

~ Courtesy of boopme

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here or here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Regardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. MBAM may make changes to your registry as part of its disinfection routine. If you're using other security programs that detect registry changes, they may alert you after scanning with MBAM. Please permit the program to allow the changes.

Please include the following in your reply:

As stated in my original post I already have MBAM installed on my computer...So should I simply run a scan? Or should I uninstall and reinstall it?
Here's the scan I did last night in safe mode immediately following the DrWeb scan.
Is this what you want or do you want me to uninstall and start over with a bogus rename to MBAM?

Please answer my question

Have you run Flash Disinfector?

And if you already have MBAM installed, just update it using the instructions above and then run a quick scan.

In search. Yes, It still redirects. Like If I search 'computer help' for instance...and I don't see what I want on the first page and so I click on 'page 2'...it goes to some kind of pregnancy video or some crazy stuff. And sometimes it opens a whole new tab....??? But it definitely is doing it's own thing.

You should print these instructions because all instances of Firefox MUST be closed before running the fix.
  • Double click GooredFix.exe on your desktop to open it.
    • Select 2. Fix Goored by typing 2 and pressing Enter.
    • Make sure all instances of Firefox are CLOSED at this point
    • Type y at the prompt and press Enter again.
    • A log will open which you can just close. The log file is named GooredLog.txt and is on your Desktop.
  • Now open Firefox and please post the contents of the new GooredLog.txt log in your next reply
To uninstall GooredFix (after you perform option 2, Fix Goored)

Click Start >> Run and then copy/paste the following into the box and hit Enter:
"%userprofile%\Desktop\GooredFix.exe" /uninstall
If any of your security programs query a new Registry/AutoStart value being added please allow the changes.
