A friend asked me to try & fix his laptop. Vista home premium 32 bit.
All he knew was it would not boot. He took it to someone else originally & they did a vista repair & got it to boot. They guy then did "some scans" and tried to do "some removal". Not sure what all he really did.

When I received the laptop I uninstalled McAfee antivirus. It was out of date & no longer had subscription. I installed AVG 8.5, updated & tried to scan. Within 2hrs the computer had crashed & rebooted with the message that it had recovered from a serious error.
I then installed & updated Malwarebytes antimalware. I started a full scan & when it reached 2% it froze. I rebooted & tried to boot into safemode.
It would not boot into safemood. It would freeze on the screen that shows all the files loading. So I rebooted into regular mode & then tried to run Malwarebytes quick scan. It reached 7% and froze. Anytime after that when I scanned with Malwarebytes it would find some traces, but would crash & reboot before finishing.
Next I installed Super Anti Spyware. I ran into the same issues with this that I did when trying to run Malwarebytes. It would either freeze or scan for a long time & then crash. Even when trying to do quick scan, it would scan for 5 plus hours & then crash.

If I just boot Vista and let the computer sit, it does not crash even after 24 hours.

Next I ran windows debugger to check the dump files. IT showed 0x00000077 Kernel Stack Inpage Error
Based on info I found on MS website I ran system file checker tool & then read the CBS log.
It shows 3 instances of can not repair desktop.ini and 2 instances of can not repair locdrv.cab
all 5 of these references show they are in winsxs folder.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

I have attached the attah.txt file & here is what was in hijackthis log-
