I've seen them go for$125 to $300
It all depends on your make and model and where you can find one

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

I saw an ad yesterday for (what I consider) inexpensive, new laptops which are worth a look, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...-L0A-_-34101180

There are probably more available at other websites.
