I hope someone can help me before I lose it!

The last week or so I have been experiencing problems with IE. If I click on a new tab, 9 times out of 10 it shuts the window completely then gives the generic "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. It's infuriating me at the moment, I have no idea what has caused this, I installed a new printer a couple of weeks ago but I can't see it being that?!?

I wonder if there's a way I can repair IE?

All suggestions gratefully accepted

I decided today to look at the error report created when the window closes. The problematic files appear to be

Docs\user1\locals1\temp\WER8e95.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp and
" " " " " \ appcompat.txt

can anyone shed any light on this?
